My name is Darryl. I am currently 10 years in on a 78-year sentence. I love origami. In addition to patience, it has taught me the sense of accomplishment that I feel on completing some new and difficult item after hours or even days crumpling up mess-ups. It is strangely addictive.

I can make a wide variety of stuff… mystical creatures: Unicorns, Cerberus, Chimera, 3-headed dragon. Animals: Antelope, Elephant, Kangaroo, Dog. Insects: Spiders, Grasshoppers, Scorpion, Praying mantis. People: A man rowing a boat, A witch on a broomstick. I got the idea of a “music box” as I lacked a vehicle with which I could share my hobby with my daughter. Origami does not fare too well after being smooshed into an envelope, subjected to the physical scrutiny and tampering of the prison mailroom, and then making the journey out. Also, it made the origami more special which is a requirement to anything I send to my loved ones outside, I’d like things I give to them to be memorable or at least, unique. It comforts me to know that I can share something I spent so much time on in the confinement of my cell with the people I am often thinking about while making it.
